No, this photo doesn't show the Prime Minister of Luxembourg and his husband19041503.jpg

A picture supposedly depicting the Prime Minister of Luxembourg with his husband became viral abroad and also reached Greece. It comes from a Ghanaian website.

Greek politician and TV personality Kyriakos Velopoulos recently shared this picture through his Twitter account.

The claim presented itself for the first time on 10/4/2019 in a Ghanaian website and gained “popularity” through too many Twitter shares.

In reality, the picture does not portray “the Luxembourg Prime Minister with his husband”, but the singer Conchita Wurst.

Wurst attended the Vienna Opera ball on 28/2/2019 and among the many photographs taken one of them is showing him accompanied by a man who is not Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel.

The fact that Bettel is married to a man (Gauthier Destenay) has often made him the target of conservative circles in and out of Europe. In this particular case, Kyriakos Velopoulos uses Bettel’s sexual identity to support “Europe's moral decay”, a practice often projected by Kremlin to enhance the public’s anti-European sentiment in the EU, and is often exploited by the European populist extreme right-wing parties to strengthen their base.

In conclusion, the claim that the picture depicts the Prime Minister of Luxembourg with his husband is false and is rejected.
