TheJournal.ie's FactCheck is the first and only dedicated fact-checking project in Ireland. Run by the biggest news website in the country, TheJournal.ie's FactCheck checks factual claims made by public figures about newsworthy and topical issues, as well as memes, hoaxes and viral content. It plays a key role in debunking false and misleading information during national votes, including Ireland's contentious abortion referendum in 2018. Its factcheckers have collaborated with national television and radio shows to carry out live factchecks of major news events, and have a won a number of awards for their work.
